New Mexico State’s Dijana Mazumdar Earns WAC Swimmer of the Week Honors
New Mexico State University freshman swimmer Dijana Mazumdar has been named Swimmer of the Week by the Western Athletic Conference for the second time this season. Mazumdar, hailing from Sydney, Australia, had an outstanding performance in a meet against Utah Tech, winning four races and anchoring the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:45.98.
Mazumdar’s impressive victories included first-place finishes in the 50 free, 100 free, and 400 free relay, with notable split times that showcased her speed and talent in the pool. Her standout performance helped lead the Aggies to a decisive victory over their WAC opponent, with a final score of 173-78.
NM State head coach Rick Pratt praised Mazumdar’s consistency and leadership as one of the team’s top sprinters. In addition to Mazumdar’s success, other team members including Naomi Slee, Katie Rink, Emily Dobbins, Faye McDonagh, and Ellen Osthelder also had strong showings in the meet.
Looking ahead to the new year, Mazumdar and the Aggies will face off against Grand Canyon in a home clash on January 11, 2025. The team is optimistic about their continued success as they strive for more victories in the upcoming season.
