During a two-week operation in Santa Fe, the New Mexico State Police Department, Santa Fe Police Department, and Region III Task Force worked together to address criminal activity targeting the unhoused population. A total of 479 individuals were contacted, resulting in 25 felony arrests, 15 misdemeanor arrests, and 13 drug-related arrests. Additionally, 19 habitual offenders were arrested and 242 fentanyl pills were seized. Various other drugs such as methamphetamine, heroin, and psilocybin were also confiscated during the operation.
To support those affected, an NMSP civilian victims advocate was present to offer resources to the unhoused population. Despite some initial hesitation, 34 individuals chose to speak with an advocate, while only three declined assistance.
The New Mexico State Police remains committed to addressing the underlying issues that lead to criminal activity among the unhoused population. By working collaboratively with state resources, NMSP aims to build strong relationships that promote safety and improve the quality of life for all residents of New Mexico.
