Alec Baldwin pleads with New Mexico judge to maintain dismissal of manslaughter charge – Fox28 Savannah

Alec Baldwin, the actor who was involved in a tragic shooting incident on the set of the film “Rust” last year, is now urging a New Mexico judge to uphold the dismissal of a manslaughter charge against him. Baldwin’s legal team argued that there is no evidence to support the charge and that it would be unjust to hold him criminally responsible for the accidental death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

The incident occurred in October 2021 when Baldwin was rehearsing a scene and fired a prop gun, which unbeknownst to him was loaded with a live round. The bullet struck Hutchins, who later died from her injuries. Baldwin has maintained that he did not know the gun was loaded with live ammunition and has expressed deep remorse over the tragedy.

In court documents filed by his lawyer, Baldwin argued that the decision to charge him with manslaughter was “legally and factually unwarranted.” His attorney also claimed that the prosecution had failed to provide any evidence that Baldwin acted recklessly or with criminal intent. The defense team also highlighted Baldwin’s cooperation with authorities in the investigation and his efforts to support Hutchins’ family in the aftermath of the shooting.

The judge’s decision on whether to dismiss the manslaughter charge against Baldwin is eagerly awaited by both the prosecution and the defense. If the charge is upheld, Baldwin could potentially face criminal proceedings. However, if the judge sides with Baldwin and dismisses the charge, it would bring some closure to a tragic chapter in the actor’s career. Baldwin has expressed a desire to move forward and continue working in the film industry, despite the lingering shadow of the “Rust” shooting.
