A devastating fire destroyed the historic Kenna store and service station along U.S. 70 late Saturday afternoon. Arson is suspected as a possible cause of the fire, as there was no electricity or propane going to the building. Fire officials are investigating the origin of the fire, with state inspectors and fire marshals expected to examine the site early this week. The building, which had been a focal point of the tiny community of Kenna for decades, had been empty for about seven years prior to the blaze. Although no injuries were reported, cadaver dogs will be brought in as a precaution once the building is deemed safe to enter. Kenna, once a bustling town with various businesses, is now essentially a ghost town with only a church and community building remaining. The town’s history dates back to the early 1900s, when it was a major cattle shipping point in the state. Despite the loss of the iconic building, residents near Kenna now receive mail from the post office in Elida.
