WeRide Inc., a global leader in autonomous driving technology, has been chosen as the technology provider for a new autonomous driving pilot project in Switzerland. The project, funded by the Canton of Zurich and Swiss national railway Schweizerische Bundesbahnen (SBB) and managed by the Swiss Transit Lab (STL), will utilize WeRide’s L4 autonomous driving technology. During the test phase, two autonomous cars will be in service, with plans to expand to four cars in the second quarter. The fully unmanned mode will operate for up to five years, with the fleet expected to grow in the future.
Residents in the Furttal Region of Switzerland will be able to book the autonomous vehicles through an app supplied by ioki. WeRide’s founder and CEO, Tony Han, expressed the company’s commitment to expanding autonomous driving solutions in Europe, highlighting the adaptability of their technology in various scenarios. The project aims to address limited transportation options in suburban areas, where trains serve as the main mode of transportation.
WeRide’s selection for the project marks their third in Europe in eight months, following successful projects at Zurich Airport and the 2024 French Open in Paris.
