New Mexico State Police officer Ismael Perez is being hailed as a hero for his quick actions in saving the life of a newborn baby boy in July 2023. Responding to an emergency call about a distressed mother, Officer Perez arrived at the hospital to find the baby unresponsive and still attached to the umbilical cord. Acting swiftly, Perez performed life-saving measures until the baby began crying, indicating signs of life. The hospital later confirmed that the mother had successfully given birth to a healthy baby boy. Perez’s heroic efforts have earned him a nomination for the 2025 Axon RISE Award, and voting for him is open until January 27. A panel of judges will review the top 10 vote-getters in each category and select the winners in February. Officer Perez’s dedication to saving lives serves as a shining example of the bravery and quick thinking displayed by first responders in moments of crisis.
