New Mexico Health Care Authority discusses mental health support during holiday season

During the holiday season, many people struggle with substance use, family issues, and overwhelming emotions. Rosella Sanchez, the director of Community and Stakeholder Relations for NM 988, emphasizes the importance of recognizing the triggers that the holiday season can bring, such as depression and anxiety. The 988 lifeline has seen an increase in calls during this time, with over 2,000 calls received in December alone. To provide support, the 988-line offers confidential help 24/7, and there is also the NMConnect app for those who prefer texting or online communication. The app, created by New Mexicans for New Mexicans, offers self-assessments, resources, and tools for people in rural areas. Additionally, there is a workbook available for those who prefer writing out their thoughts. Both the app and workbook are available in Spanish. The goal is to provide private, confidential support for individuals struggling during the holiday season. For more information, visit the NM 988 website.
