Utah football’s running back room has faced challenges with transfer portal attrition, but they recently added some reinforcements. Mike Washington, a 6-foot-2, 215-pound running back from New Mexico State, announced his commitment to the Utes. Washington had a strong season last year, rushing for 713 yards and eight touchdowns, while also making nine receptions for 74 yards and a touchdown. He previously played at Buffalo before transferring to New Mexico State, where he had two 100-yard rushing games. In total, Washington has 1,832 yards and 18 touchdowns over four seasons in college football.
Washington is the sixth transfer commit for Utah this offseason, joining five other newcomers including Mississippi State wide receiver Creed Whittemore. The Utes have been focused on adding depth to their running back room, especially after losing key players to graduation and transfers. With Washington’s addition, Utah is hopeful to strengthen their backfield and continue their success on the field in the upcoming season.
