The Roswell Finance Committee will be meeting to discuss a variety of financial matters at City Hall. The severe flooding in October has added to the complexity of ongoing financial planning efforts. Councilor Robert Corn has warned that meetings may become longer and more involved, with over 30 items on the agenda for this meeting.
Among the flood-related items to be discussed are updates on road and bridge infrastructure affected by the flood, as well as FEMA monitoring at the landfill costing over $581,000. The city is also facing a 90-day hiatus on Gross Receipts Tax payments, resulting in a potential loss of $5 million per month.
The Utilities Department will provide updates on how the flooding has impacted water and wastewater operations. Additionally, there will be discussions on budget planning, Lodgers’ Tax income and expenses, as well as emergency bridge repairs and other ongoing projects related to the flood.
One important action item includes the approval of an ordinance for emergency loan funding from the New Mexico Environment Department for sewer repairs. The $1.04 million proposed would be reimbursed once the city receives federal disaster aid. This meeting will touch on various financial challenges faced by the city in the aftermath of the recent flooding.
