Victoria Kjær Theilvig of Denmark has been crowned Miss Universe in the 73rd edition of the competition held in Mexico City. An animal protection advocate who works in the diamond selling business, Kjaer beat out Miss Nigeria and Miss Mexico to take the title, making her the first Danish contestant to win Miss Universe.
The pageant took place at the Mexico City Arena with a capacity of 20,000 people in attendance. The event featured performances by 131 mariachi musicians and singer Taboo of the Black Eyed Peas. The gala was hosted by Mario López, Olivia Culpo, Zuri Hall, and Catriona Gray.
With over 120 contestants participating, this year saw countries like Belarus, Eritrea, Guineau, Macau, Maldives, Moldova, and Uzbekistan represented for the first time. Miss Denmark’s win marks the third time that Mexico has hosted the Miss Universe competition.
Supporters from around the world waved flags and cheered on their favorites during the national costume competition and final crowning. Miss Denmark’s journey to the title as an advocate for animal rights and experience in the diamond industry has made her a standout contestant in this year’s competition.
Miss Universe continues to celebrate diversity, inclusion, and empowerment of women from all corners of the globe, and Miss Denmark’s win serves as a testament to the international representation and talent showcased in the pageant.
