Ukrainian strike kills five in Belgorod, Russian raid targets journalists | Conflict in Russia-Ukraine war escalates

Overnight clashes between Kyiv and Moscow have resulted in casualties on both sides, with at least five people killed and 13 wounded in a Ukrainian strike on the Russian region of Belgorod. Regional Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov announced the death toll, including minors among the wounded, and vowed to help all those affected. This escalation comes as Kyiv intensifies strikes inside Russian territory following a ground offensive into Russia’s Kursk region two weeks ago. In response, Russia’s Ministry of Defence has deployed additional troops and artillery units to the region to push back Ukrainian forces.

Simultaneously, in Ukraine, an overnight Russian strike hit a hotel in Kramatorsk, injuring two journalists and leaving one missing. The journalists were British, American, and Ukrainian nationals, with a search operation currently underway. Reuters reported that their team was staying at the hotel during the attack, with one colleague unaccounted for and two others hospitalized. Russia also launched missiles and drones across northern and eastern Ukraine, causing damage and injuries in cities such as Kharkiv.

Kyiv’s military claims to have destroyed most of the missiles, while the mayor of Kharkiv city reported damage to a gas pipeline and homes. The governor of the Kharkiv region confirmed seven injuries, including a child. The situation remains tense as both sides exchange fire, resulting in civilian casualties and significant damage. The international community closely watches the conflict, with concerns growing about the escalating violence and its impact on the region.
