The Democratic Party of New Mexico has announced that its staff has officially unionized under the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local Lodge 794. This move comes after the unionization process began in 2022. The collective bargaining agreement includes various provisions such as salary ranges, work schedules, job descriptions, time off, and health insurance. The agreement also protects the staff’s political freedom and prohibits the use of artificial intelligence to replace human labor.
DPNM Communications Director Daniel Garcia expressed that this unionization is long overdue and hopes that it will strengthen the party by creating a better workplace environment. The agreement also includes provisions for family medical leaves, parental leaves, and an optional 401k retirement plan.
The union will be represented by Ashley Long from IAMAW Local Lodge 794 and Daniel Garcia will serve as the first DPNM workplace Union Steward. Isaiah Baca will serve as the Alternate Steward. Baca mentioned that the Collective Bargaining Agreement provides responsible protections for staff and aligns with the party’s pro-Labor values.
Additionally, DPNM has offered its support to the Republican Party of New Mexico if they decide to unionize as well. The press release did not immediately receive a response from the RPNM.
