Harris campaign escalates criticism of Trump in latest ad as ‘unhinged, unstable’

Kamala Harris’ campaign is launching a new TV ad aimed at linking Donald Trump’s recent behavior and comments with questions about his mental acuity and refusal to release recent medical records. The ad, titled “Total Power,” argues that Trump will ignore all checks that rein in a president’s power if he returns to office. It highlights Project 2025, a conservative blueprint that Trump has distanced himself from, and warns of the policy implications if he is re-elected, including higher costs on groceries, cuts to social security and Medicare, more tax breaks for billionaires, and a national abortion ban.

Harris has been using Trump’s own words and actions to portray him as increasingly unstable and unfit for office, a messaging strategy that internal research shows is effective in reaching persuadable voters. The ad is part of the campaign’s $370 million paid media blitz in the final days of the election.

The campaign also recently released a digital ad criticizing vice presidential nominee J.D. Vance as “extremist” and warning that he could be a heartbeat away from the presidency if Trump wins, marking the first time the Democratic ticket has targeted him for his age in paid media. Overall, the Harris campaign is focusing on painting Trump as unhinged, unstable, and unchecked, in an effort to convince voters that he is unfit for a second term as president.
