Strong gusts sweep through eastern New Mexico

High winds reaching over 70 mph caused significant damage in Clovis and fueled a wildfire near Wagon Mound over the weekend. The Highland Baptist Church in Clovis had its roof ripped off by the fierce winds, leaving the senior pastor, Brandon Boydston, in shock. Debris scattered around the church as community members came together to help rebuild.

Meanwhile, firefighters were battling a brush fire near Wagon Mound, which was visible from nearby trains. Passengers on an Amtrak train were stranded for hours as the fire spread over the tracks, causing delays. The fire is now 50 percent contained, with evacuation orders lifted.

Despite the challenges faced by both the church and the community dealing with the wildfire, support and assistance have been pouring in. Boydston expressed gratitude for the offers of help from other churches and community members willing to lend a hand during this difficult time.
