New Mexico has launched a new initiative in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association to raise awareness about the disease that affects millions of people across the U.S. The joint campaign includes billboards, digital ads, and social media posts, aiming to spark conversations within families and educate the public about warning signs and treatments for Alzheimer’s. The goal is also to highlight support services for family members and caregivers.
With over 7 million people living with Alzheimer’s in the U.S., it is the seventh-leading cause of death. In New Mexico alone, an estimated 46,000 people have the disease, with 67,000 family members providing care at home. The recent passing of actor Gene Hackman, who had Alzheimer’s, has brought attention to the importance of raising awareness and providing support for those affected by the disease. The Alzheimer’s Association hopes that this pilot initiative will expand to other states in the future.
