Engine fire erupts on American Airlines plane in Denver after landing

An American Airlines plane experienced an engine fire after landing at Denver International Airport on Thursday evening. The flight, which was traveling from Colorado Springs to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, was diverted to Denver due to engine vibrations. The Boeing 737-800 landed safely, but the engine caught fire as it taxied to the gate. Passengers evacuated using slides, with 12 people sustaining minor injuries and being taken to hospitals. Videos on social media show the plane engulfed in smoke at the gate, with passengers exiting onto the wing and crew members attempting to extinguish the fire. American Airlines described the incident as an “engine-related issue” and noted that 172 passengers and six crew members were on board. The airline expressed gratitude for the quick actions of crew members, airport staff, and first responders in prioritizing the safety of all those involved. The Federal Aviation Administration will conduct an investigation into the incident. NBC News producer Jay Blackman and breaking news reporter Rebecca Cohen covered the story, with contributions from Bryan Gallion and Alex Lo.
