New Mexico secures victory over San José State in Mountain West Conference tournament quarterfinals

No. 1 New Mexico showcased their dominance in a 78-69 victory over No. 8 San José State in the Mountain West tournament quarterfinals. Guard Donovan Dent led the way with 25 points and five assists, solidifying his status as the conference player of the year. Dent made history by scoring 20 or more points and recording at least five assists in five consecutive tournament games, a first in Mountain West history. His buzzer-beating shot from around 40 feet to end the first half was a highlight moment.

Despite a strong start from San José State, the Lobos managed to take control of the game with contributions from Nelly Junior Joseph and Tru Washington. Junior Joseph added 14 points and a tournament-record-tying 18 rebounds, while Washington provided key plays on both ends of the court.

New Mexico advances to face the winner of San Diego State and Boise State in the semifinals. The game will be televised on CBS Sports Network at 6:30 p.m. PT on Friday. The Lobos look to continue their championship pursuit with their eyes set on the Mountain West title.
