The Western Kentucky women’s basketball team celebrated a successful final home game of the season with an 85-68 win over New Mexico State on Saturday at E.A. Diddle Arena. The Lady Toppers honored seniors Alexis Mead, Destiny Salary, and Mariama Sow as they built a significant lead and maintained control throughout the game. Coach Greg Collins credited the team’s defensive effort for generating energy and allowing for an efficient offensive performance. Mead showcased her toughness by returning to the game after suffering a nose injury and led with 23 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds. Salary also had a standout performance with 17 points, including a career-high five made 3-pointers. The win secures Western Kentucky’s position as no worse than the No. 3 seed in the Conference USA Tournament, with a possibility of moving up to second with wins in their upcoming road games. The Lady Toppers will face FIU next on Thursday.
