The Port of Olympia Commission has decided to renew its contract with Firefly Technologies, the port’s IT service provider, for an amount not exceeding $990,000. The contract, authorized by Executive Director Alex Smith, will run for three years with the option of renewal for two more years. The company will assist in designing and implementing the port’s infrastructure, network, and provide software support. Commissioner Jasmine Vasavada expressed concerns about the level of service provided by Firefly Technologies but was assured that issues had been addressed. The decision to renew the contract was supported by Commissioners Amy Evans Harding and Bob Iyall, who highlighted the company’s responsiveness. The commission also discussed potential cost savings by hiring an in-house IT professional. Despite concerns, it was noted that the port has the option to cancel the contract with a 60-day notice. The port is currently looking for a new enterprise service director and an in-house IT professional, who will review the entire IT system. This decision was made after the port staff reviewed other bidders and chose Firefly Technologies as the preferred candidate.
