The Wyoming Cowgirls put on a strong defensive performance in a 59-40 victory against New Mexico. The Cowgirls held the Lobos to their lowest point total since last season. After a slow offensive start, Wyoming went on a 9-0 run in the first quarter to take control. The lead grew to 12 by halftime, and the Cowgirls maintained their defensive pressure in the second half. Allyson Fertig led all scorers with 15 points, while Malene Pedersen and McKinley Dickerson added 11 and 10 points respectively. Tess Barnes also played a key role, holding New Mexico’s top scorer to just eight points. Wyoming’s strong defense limited New Mexico to 32% shooting from the field and forced 16 turnovers. The Cowgirls shot 40% from the field and outscored the Lobos in the paint. Coach Heather Ezell praised the team’s defensive effort and execution of the game plan. Wyoming will now prepare for their final road game against Colorado State. The Border War rematch is set for Saturday at 6 p.m. at Moby Arena.
