Influencer Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan Tate, who are facing charges including human trafficking and sexual intercourse with a minor in Romania, have left for the U.S. after a travel ban on them was lifted by Romanian prosecutors. The Tate brothers, who are dual U.S.-British citizens, reportedly took a private plane from Romania to the U.S. early Thursday morning. The brothers are under investigation for forming an organized criminal group, human trafficking, trafficking of minors, sex with a minor, and money laundering. They deny any wrongdoing. The Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism in Romania stated that the Tate brothers can now leave Romania but must still fulfill judicial control measures and appear before authorities if summoned.
Andrew and Tristan Tate, along with two Romanian women, were arrested near Bucharest in 2022 and indicted by Romanian prosecutors in 2023. A trial date has not been set yet. Their departure to the U.S. follows a countersuit filed by an American woman against them, claiming they tried to recruit her into a webcam sex trafficking ring and defamed her after she testified to Romanian authorities. The Tate brothers had previously sued her for defamation.
This situation is still developing, with more updates expected. Chantal Da Silva, reporting for NBC News Digital from London, is following the story with contributions from The Associated Press.
