A performer at Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show was detained by security after waving the Sudanese and Palestinian flags with “Sudan” and “Gaza” written on them. The NFL identified the individual as part of the field cast and praised security for quickly detaining them. The person will now be banned from all NFL stadiums and events. The incident was not planned and was not part of the rehearsal, according to Roc Nation, which produced the show. The New Orleans Police Department confirmed there was no arrest or summons in the case. The incident occurred during the last song of the show, “tv off.” The individual was seen holding the flag on top of a car before being tackled and detained. The incident coincided with a prisoner exchange between Israel and Hamas, as well as ongoing conflict in Sudan. NBC News reporters Rebecca Cohen and Jesse Kirsch contributed to the coverage of the event. The sponsor of the halftime show, Apple Music, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
