Two people, including the husband of the victim, have been charged in connection with the death of Fort Campbell soldier Pfc. Katia Dueñas-Aguilar. Sofia Rodas, 35, was charged with murder and tampering with evidence, while Reynaldo Salinas Cruz, 40, was charged with tampering with evidence. Dueñas-Aguilar, 23, was found dead in her home in Clarksville, Tennessee on May 18, 2024. She had been stationed at Fort Campbell since 2019 and was a member of the 101st Airborne Division’s Combat Aviation Brigade. Cruz and Rodas were already in federal custody on unrelated charges prior to being charged in connection with Dueñas-Aguilar’s death.
The Montgomery County Grand Jury indicted Cruz and Rodas, and they were extradited to Clarksville to face charges. Both are currently in custody at the Montgomery County Jail, with Cruz set to be arraigned on Monday and Rodas given a court date in the coming weeks. The case is still open and under active investigation by the Clarksville Police Department.
Authorities emphasized the importance of the partnership between local law enforcement and military authorities in addressing serious crimes involving service members and their families. The department expressed its commitment to seeking justice for Dueñas-Aguilar and ensuring accountability for those responsible for her death.
