The Jan. 27 coaches top 10 polls for high school boys and girls basketball teams in New Mexico have been released. In the boys’ category, the rankings are as follows: (1) Las Cruces (61 points, 7 first-place votes), (2) Roswell (55 points, 3 first-place votes), (3) Cleveland (53 points), (4) Albuquerque (46 points), (5) Cleveland (40 points), (6) Carlsbad (34 points), (7) Volcano Vista (26 points), (8) Clovis (18 points), (9) Centennial (13 points), and (10) Sandia (6 points). On the girls’ side, the rankings are: (1) Volcano Vista (54 points, 3 first-place votes), (2) La Cueva (48 points, 2 first-place votes), (3) Centennial (41 points), (4) Sandia (38 points, 1 first-place vote), (5) Hobbs (29 points), (6) Clovis (26 points, 1 first-place vote), (7) Carlsbad (23 points), (8) Piedra Vista (17 points), (9) EspaƱola Valley (10 points), and (10) Alamogordo (6 points).
In these rankings, Las Cruces retained their top spot in the boys’ category, while Volcano Vista claimed the number one position in the girls’ division.
