The New Mexico Bowl was a huge success this year, with almost 23,000 fans attending the game between Texas Christian University and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. The event was the highest attended New Mexico Bowl since 2018 and had a significant economic impact on the city of Albuquerque, bringing in around $3.2 million in direct visitor spending. The Sheraton in Uptown reported a sold-out period from Christmas day through the bowl game, which is typically a slow time of year for the lodging industry.
Visit Albuquerque CEO and President, Tania Armenta, highlighted the positive impact of the bowl game on the city’s economy, especially during a slower tourism season. The New Mexico Bowl is now in its 19th year and plans are already underway for the 20th anniversary next year. Viewership of the game was up 44% compared to last year, with 1.2 million viewers tuning in.
New Mexico Bowl Executive Director, Jeff Siembieda, expressed satisfaction with the fan and student-athlete experience at the event, emphasizing the positive feedback received. Overall, the New Mexico Bowl was a success both on and off the field, and organizers are looking forward to the continued growth and success of the event in the future.
