Former daytime talk-show host Phil McGraw posted a video of himself on a ride-along with immigration agents in Chicago as they carried out targeted enforcement operations in the United States. The video, broadcast on McGraw’s own network called Merit Street Media, showed him speaking with Trump administration border czar Thomas Homan about the agency’s efforts to apprehend known criminals and terrorists.
The enforcement actions come as President Donald Trump promised to carry out a large-scale deportation plan and as immigration advocates warn people about their rights during encounters with authorities. ICE agents took nearly 1,200 people into custody in a single day, with nearly half of those detained lacking criminal records.
In the video, McGraw is seen questioning a handcuffed man who has been convicted of sex crimes with children. The man asks for a lawyer and denies committing the alleged crimes. McGraw, who ended his daytime show in 2023, spoke at Trump’s rally in 2022 but said it was not an endorsement. Trump’s rise to fame came through reality TV appearances, guest roles on talk shows, and eventually hosting “The Apprentice.”
The video of McGraw’s ride-along with immigration agents has sparked controversy, with critics questioning the legality and ethics of such operations. The video highlights the complex issues surrounding immigration enforcement and the rights of individuals regardless of their immigration status.
