ICE makes nearly 1,200 arrests in a single day

Immigration authorities conducted close to 1,200 arrests in just one day, with nearly half of those detained having no criminal records. Of the total arrests, 613 were considered “criminal,” with only eight classified as “Worst Criminals Arrested.” However, at least 566 individuals had not committed any crimes and were only detained due to lacking legal authorization to remain in the U.S.

While being undocumented is not considered a crime but a civil offense, re-entering the U.S. without permission after being deported is considered a crime. The Trump administration has emphasized prioritizing the detention and deportations of undocumented immigrants who have committed serious crimes. However, the latest numbers suggest that individuals without criminal records are also being targeted.

ICE lodged 853 detainers on individuals arrested for other criminal charges, indicating probable cause for potential deportation. In sanctuary cities, local jurisdictions do not act on detainer requests from ICE.

The administration maintains that they are focused on capturing criminals for public safety, but collateral arrests of non-criminal individuals can be expected as immigration enforcement actions heighten. The true impact and implications of these arrests remain in question, as Trump’s policies on immigration continue to face scrutiny and criticism.
