‘Albuquerque Library Presents the ‘Reading Room Rumble’ Event’

The Central and Unser library in Albuquerque recently hosted the Reading Room Rumble, an Esports competition for kids. Participants had the chance to compete in games like Super Smash Bros., Mario Kart, and Rocket League, as well as newer additions like Marvel Rivals and Tetris. The event aims to make Esports a social activity and provide kids with a space to meet others their age. Hannah Shirtly of the City of Albuquerque praised Esports as a positive outlet for kids who are often immersed in technology. People of all ages were welcome at the event, but children under 13 required adult supervision. The event comes amid concerns about potential cuts in funding for New Mexico public libraries that ban books. The Reading Room Rumble highlights the library’s efforts to engage the community in innovative ways.Overall, the event was a success in bringing together gamers of all ages to enjoy friendly competition and social interaction.
