Law students from the University of New Mexico (UNM) were recently sworn in to practice criminal cases in Metro Court. This unique opportunity allows students to gain hands-on experience in a real courtroom setting.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court, where the students were officially granted permission to represent defendants in criminal cases. This is a valuable experience for law students, as it gives them a chance to apply their classroom knowledge in a practical setting and gain insight into the legal system.
The students will be supervised by licensed attorneys and judges to ensure that they are adhering to ethical standards and providing competent representation to their clients. This program not only benefits the students by providing them with practical skills, but also helps to alleviate the case load in Metro Court by providing additional representation for defendants.
Overall, this initiative by UNM demonstrates a commitment to providing its students with opportunities for hands-on learning and preparing them for successful legal careers.
