Five STEM teachers from New Mexico have been honored with the prestigious Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. This award recognizes educators who demonstrate a commitment to inspiring and guiding students in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

The winners include Jennifer Carrillo from Acequia Madre Elementary School, Lori Mabery from Arrowhead Park Early College High School, Suzanne McCord from Carrizozo High School, Melissa Wayne from El Camino Real Academy, and Rebecca Sparks from Amy Biehl High School. These dedicated teachers have shown exceptional dedication to their students and have made significant impacts on their communities through their innovative teaching methods.

The Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching is the highest recognition that a K-12 mathematics or science teacher can receive in the United States. Winners of this award receive a certificate signed by the President of the United States, a trip to Washington D.C. to attend a series of recognition events and professional development opportunities, and a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation.
