New Mexico is set to experience a dramatic shift in weather over the next few days. After a period of warmer temperatures, a winter storm is forecasted to bring snow and Arctic air back into the state starting Saturday.
The week began with sunshine and warmer weather, but a weak weather disturbance is expected to bring spotty rain and snow showers late Thursday night into Friday morning. By Friday afternoon, westerly winds will pick up, bringing the warmest weather of the week.
However, by Saturday, Arctic air will begin moving in from the north, causing temperatures to drop quickly. Snowfall is expected in southern Colorado and potentially as far south as the Sacramentos. A second surge of Arctic air on Sunday into Monday may bring more snow to northern and northeastern New Mexico, with temperatures remaining cold.
Travel impacts are likely, especially in northeastern New Mexico along I-25. Residents are advised to stay updated on the latest weather news and be prepared for potentially hazardous conditions.
