The Sandhills Global Technology Center at SCC Welcomes Students for Winter Semester

Lincoln, Neb. – Lincoln has solidified its position as a regional destination for individuals pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, and math as Southeast Community College unveiled its Sandhills Global Technology Center. The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the $37 million facility took place on Wednesday afternoon, with SCC President Paul Illich expressing excitement over the opportunities for learning and innovation that the center will provide. The main goal of the facility is to address Nebraska’s skilled workforce gap by partnering with local businesses and industries to offer direct pathways for students to enter the workforce upon graduation.

The Sandhills Global Technology Center will offer programs in biotechnology, design drafting, electronic systems, and information technology. The center’s construction was made possible through a combination of federal funds and private donations, with Sandhills Global contributing $5 million, representing the largest private donation SCC has ever received. The building is set to welcome its first batch of students on January 21st.

The launch of the Sandhills Global Technology Center marks a significant milestone for Lincoln, providing a state-of-the-art facility to train and educate future professionals in STEM fields. With a focus on addressing the skilled workforce shortage in Nebraska, the center promises to be a hub for innovation, learning, and industry collaboration. Students and prospective employees alike will benefit from the direct pathways to employment that the center will offer, creating a local talent pool equipped with the skills needed to drive growth and success in the region.
