Reality star Kelly Osbourne recently accused some celebrities of using interactions with victims of the Los Angeles wildfires as “photo ops” in a now-deleted Instagram video. While she didn’t name any names, there was speculation that Osbourne’s comments were directed towards Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. However, others disagreed with her stance, stating that anyone helping in a time of crisis is making a difference.
Osbourne’s video came shortly after actress Justine Bateman criticized Meghan and Harry as “disaster tourists” for their visit to the Pasadena Convention Center, which is currently serving as an evacuation center for those who lost their homes in the wildfires. Despite the controversy, Meghan and Harry were seen consoling victims and lending support to relief efforts in the area.
Other celebrities, such as Jennifer Garner, have also been actively supporting victims of the wildfires. Garner was seen volunteering alongside chef José Andrés to provide meals to those affected by the fires, revealing that she had lost a friend in the disaster.
Overall, more than $100 million has been raised through GoFundMe campaigns to aid families, communities, and businesses affected by the wildfires. The blazes have burned over 40,000 acres in Southern California since January 7, with the Palisades Fire alone destroying nearly 24,000 acres. At least 25 people have tragically lost their lives in the fires.
