Rio Rancho Mayor considering Running for Governor

Mayor of Rio Rancho, Gregg Hull, is considering running for the Republican nomination for governor of New Mexico in 2026. Hull, who is currently serving his third term as mayor, has yet to confirm or deny his reelection bid for mayor. He has been approached by various individuals about running for governor and is currently weighing his options.

Hull, who was first elected as Rio Rancho mayor in 2014 after a career in business, is rumored to be gauging support among Republicans to potentially replace Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, a Democrat who is term-limited and cannot run again in 2026. Republicans have not won a statewide election in New Mexico since 2016 when Judith Nakamura was reelected to the state Supreme Court.

Former Republican governor Susana Martinez served two terms before Lujan Grisham, who is now in office. Potential Democratic candidates for governor include Interior Secretary Deb Haaland and U.S. Sen. Martin Heinrich, who are reportedly exploring a run for the Democratic nomination.

If Hull decides to run for governor, it could set up an interesting and competitive race in New Mexico, as both parties seek to gain control in the upcoming election. The people of Rio Rancho and New Mexico will be eagerly watching to see if Hull decides to make a bid for governor.
