New Mexico Defeats SDSU 62-48: High Altitude, Strong Offense, and a Tough Day for San Diego

San Diego State University’s men’s basketball team faced a tough loss on Saturday against New Mexico, falling 62-48. Coach Brian Dutcher expressed the need to learn from mistakes without obsessing over them, especially since the team has five more games at high altitudes this season. The game highlighted the team’s offensive struggles, ranking poorly in effective field-goal percentage and offensive efficiency.

UC San Diego also had a disappointing night, losing their Big West showdown against UC Irvine and snapping a 12-game win streak. Despite the tough losses for both San Diego schools, there is a silver lining in their progress over the years. SDSU has come a long way from playing in Peterson Gym to now regularly filling 12,414-seat Viejas Arena and receiving national television coverage. UCSD has also shown growth, transitioning from Division II to Division I with increasing support from fans.

While Saturday may not have been the best day for San Diego college basketball teams, it serves as a reminder of their progress and potential for the future. Despite the losses, both schools have shown growth and improvement, with hopes of continuing to build strong basketball programs and attract larger audiences.
