School staff in Albuquerque crafts one-of-a-kind signs for classrooms

Jacob Flores, the head custodian at Mission Avenue Elementary School in Albuquerque, has gone above and beyond his job duties by creating wooden signs for the classrooms. Flores came up with the idea during a teacher conference to bring joy to the kids and teachers. The nine signs, featuring animals like elephants, foxes, and dinosaurs, were made in partnership with the school’s art teacher Cheryl Maldonado. The signs have been a hit, although they can sometimes cause distractions in the hallways. Flores used his own funds to create the signs and plans to make more for portable classrooms outside. The project is seen as a symbol of the school’s family-like atmosphere, with both students and teachers expressing excitement and happiness over the signs. Flores’ dedication and creativity have been recognized and appreciated by the school community. Overall, the wooden signs have brought a sense of joy and uniqueness to Mission Avenue Elementary School.
