The Celebrity Trend Explained: Why Red Bracelets are Everywhere on Left Wrists

Several Hollywood stars were seen wearing red bracelets in the early 2000s, sparking speculation about their involvement in the Kabbalah movement. The movement, associated with Judaism and described as an ancient wisdom system, gained popularity at the beginning of the 21st century. Celebrities like Madonna, Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore, and Paris Hilton were often seen wearing the red string bracelets on their left wrists, believed to ward off evil and misfortune.

However, the movement faced controversy when Rebekah and Adam Neumann incorporated their Kabbalah beliefs into their now-defunct WeWork corporation. This led to many A-listers distancing themselves from the movement, citing financial exploitation and questionable practices as reasons for leaving.

Supermodel Jerry Hall revealed in 2005 that she quit Kabbalah after being asked to hand over 10% of her income to her local Kabbalah Centre. Similarly, Madonna, who had previously invested heavily in the movement, also distanced herself when it was revealed that funds intended for a girls’ school in Malawi had been misappropriated.

Furthermore, Yehuda Berg, son of Rabbi Phillip Berg, faced a lawsuit from a former Kabbalah student accusing him of attempted sexual assault. These controversies led to a decline in Hollywood’s fascination with the Kabbalah movement, as many celebrities turned away from its teachings and practices.

Ultimately, the red bracelets worn by celebrities in the early 2000s became a symbol of their involvement in Kabbalah, but as the movement faced scrutiny and criticism, many stars decided to distance themselves from its teachings.
