Color of Change, the nation’s largest online racial justice organization, has released an updated Black Tech Agenda aimed at ensuring technology and artificial intelligence systems designed by Big Tech benefit rather than harm Black communities. The agenda addresses new challenges such as protecting Black workers from unfair AI systems, ensuring fair pay for Black artists, and preventing Big Tech from building polluting infrastructure in Black neighborhoods.
The six key pillars of the Black Tech Agenda include demands for clear rules on AI usage, equal access to technology for all communities, and policies that protect civil rights and build economic power for Black communities. The agenda emphasizes the need for laws that promote fair access to technology, individual control over personal data, community input on tech infrastructure in Black neighborhoods, fair economic opportunities for Black people, and protections for Black workers and creators.
Color of Change believes that AI can serve Black communities, but without regulation and oversight, it perpetuates discrimination and exclusion. The organization is advocating for strong regulatory frameworks at both the state and federal levels to ensure fairness, ethical guidelines, and accountability in AI systems, especially in high-risk areas like housing, hiring, policing, and elections.
This initiative is part of Color of Change’s ongoing efforts to hold Big Tech accountable and advocate for technology that uplifts the Black community. The Black Tech Agenda provides a comprehensive policy framework to ensure technology benefits Black communities and reduces harm caused by corporate giants in the tech industry.
