A man drove into a mall in Killeen, Texas, striking multiple people with his pickup truck before being shot and killed by police. The incident occurred at the Killeen Mall, where the man crashed into a JC Penney store, injuring several individuals. The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed that there is no longer a threat to the community and that the Texas Rangers are investigating the police shooting. The injured individuals, ranging in age from six to 75 years old, were taken to local hospitals for treatment. No deaths have been reported besides the suspect. Police had initially been pursuing the man after receiving a report of a possibly intoxicated driver on the highway. The driver entered the mall parking lot and crashed into the store, leading to the police shooting. The Killeen Mall, with over 90 retailers, was temporarily closed as investigators looked into the incident. The police dispelled rumors of an active shooter at the mall, which had circulated on social media earlier. The city of Killeen, located north of Austin, urged the public to avoid the area to allow first responders and investigators to carry out their work.
