Albuquerque’s vacant signs come to life in City Hall’s latest art exhibition

A new art exhibition, “New Iconic Signs,” has been unveiled at Albuquerque City Hall’s Gallery One, featuring the work of 15 local artists who have reimagined empty signs in the city. The exhibition aims to reflect community care, culture, and history through unique designs. Put on by Friends of Orphan Signs, Risolana, and the city’s Public Art Program, the project opened with an artist reception on Dec. 19 and will be on display until Feb. 14, 2025.

Located on the first floor of City Hall, the exhibition is free and open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The contributing artists include Aiko Jio, Alayne Ballantine, Blythe Mariano, Carlos Contreras, and others. This initiative seeks to give new life to empty signs in Albuquerque and is a testament to the city’s vibrant art community.
