NM State’s Canaan Yarro Honored with Conference USA Fall Spirit of Service Award
DALLAS – Senior center Canaan Yarro of NM State has been recognized by the Conference USA league office as one of nine winners of the Fall Spirit of Service award. This award is presented to student-athletes who demonstrate significant community service involvement, maintain good academic standing, and actively participate in their sport.
Yarro, a Provo, Utah native, is only the second football player in NM State history to receive this award. He has dedicated his free time to various community service projects, including the NMSU Gratitude Walk, Holy Cross Field Day, Earth Day Trash Clean up, Casa de Pererginos Food Pantry, and other initiatives with local schools.
In addition to his community service efforts, Yarro excels academically with a 3.99 grade-point average in communications. He has consistently been recognized as a Crimson Scholar Athlete in all five semesters at NM State. Yarro was also named Honorable Mention All-CUSA this season for his performance on the field, where he started all but one game and played a key role in the Aggies’ fourth-place finish in rushing yards per game.
