NM State Football Pulls Off Thrilling Overtime Victory Against LA Tech
In a nail-biting Tuesday night showdown, NM State football secured their first Conference USA win of 2024 with a 33-30 victory over LA Tech. The game went into overtime after a blocked field goal by the Aggies at the end of regulation. Mike Washington, Jr.’s touchdown sealed the win in the second overtime period.
The Aggies’ defense was the star of the night, with eight tackles for loss and five sacks. Defensive end Kale Edwards had a dominant four-sack performance. Offensively, Brandon Nuñez made a significant impact with two rushing touchdowns in his first FBS appearance.
The game started off with a defensive battle, but NM State eventually found success with a touchdown pass from Parker Awad to TJ Pride in the second quarter. However, LA Tech responded with two touchdowns before halftime to take the lead.
In the second half, NM State rallied with an 88-yard scoring drive to regain the lead. LA Tech tied the game late in the fourth quarter, but a blocked field goal by Naki Fahina forced the game into overtime.
The Aggies and LA Tech traded field goals in the first overtime and LA Tech tied the game again in the second overtime. NM State then sealed the victory with a rushing touchdown by Washington.
The win marks NM State’s 10th victory in their last 13 home games. Next, they will face FIU on October 29 in Miami. Noteworthy performances included Edwards’ four-sack game, Nuñez’s two rushing touchdowns, and a strong defensive effort from the Aggies.
