The New Mexico Automotive Dealers Association is addressing the shortage of car mechanics in the state by awarding $10,000 worth of scholarships to five deserving recipients. Jack Schliening, Bryan Marquez-Bustamante, Coleton Kerwin, Elixandro Vidales, and Rodrigo Villalobos Martinez were all nominated by their employers and received checks ranging from $2,000 to help defray the cost of attending automotive technical school community colleges. This initiative comes as a response to the aging workforce and fewer graduates entering the field, as well as the rapid evolution of vehicle technology. The New Mexico Broadcasters Association, partnering with KRQE Media Group, facilitated the distribution of the scholarships. The winners expressed gratitude for the opportunity to further their education and improve their skills in the automotive industry. This initiative aims to encourage more individuals to pursue careers as car mechanics and help meet the growing demand for skilled professionals in the field.
