A 16-year-old teenager in New Mexico is facing four counts of first-degree murder after allegedly killing his family members in Belen. The suspect called 911 to report the murders, claiming he heard a voice telling him to commit the crime. The victims included Adriana Bencomo, a dedicated volunteer firefighter and mother, and three other family members. The suspect’s father was among those killed, and it was revealed that he had purchased the gun used in the shootings. The teenager is currently being held in a juvenile detention center in Albuquerque but could be charged as an adult.
The community has been left shocked and mourning the loss of the victims. Bencomo, who had been a firefighter for 17 years, was described as a caring and humorous person who always put others first. The school district where the suspect and his younger brother attended has provided resources to help students and staff cope with the tragedy. The district is also working closely with law enforcement to prevent such incidents in the future.
