The House Ethics Committee has voted to publicly release a report detailing the findings of an investigation into former Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., which included allegations of sexual misconduct, drug use, acceptance of improper gifts, favors to people with personal relationships, and obstruction of the House probe. Gaetz resigned from the House last month after facing scrutiny and withdrew his nomination as U.S. attorney general. The report is expected to be made public this week, going against House Speaker Mike Johnson’s wishes as Gaetz is no longer a member of Congress. Gaetz was also investigated by the Department of Justice over allegations of sex trafficking, but no charges were filed. Gaetz denied any criminal wrongdoing and criticized the committee and his accusers. He also announced a new job as a weeknights anchor for the One America News Network and podcasting. The release of the report is significant due to Gaetz’s close ties to former President Donald Trump and his potential bid for Florida governor. The Ethics Committee has jurisdiction over current members of Congress, but has previously released reports on former members like Rep. Bill Boner.
