The University of Idaho Vandals are in search of a new head coach following Jason Eck’s departure for the University of New Mexico. Eck, who led the Vandals to the FCS playoffs in each of his three seasons, agreed to a five-year deal with the Lobos after a successful tenure in Idaho.
In his first year with the Vandals, Eck turned the program around with a 7-5 record and a playoff appearance. The following season, Idaho went 9-4 and won a playoff game before falling in the Quarterfinals. This season, Eck and the Vandals finished with a 10-4 record and another playoff berth, ultimately falling to Montana State in the postseason.
Eck will look to revitalize a struggling New Mexico program that has not reached a bowl game since 2016. The Vandals will now embark on a nationwide coaching search to find their next leader. Idaho’s loss is New Mexico’s gain as Eck brings his successful track record and coaching expertise to the Lobos.
