Bronco Mendenhall, former head coach of the New Mexico Lobos, has made the switch to Utah State Aggies. Mendenhall, a Utah native and previous coach at BYU and Virginia, signed a six-year deal with Utah State. He expressed his excitement for the opportunity to develop young players and transform the football program. Mendenhall’s impressive coaching background includes leading BYU to 11 consecutive bowl games and five seasons with 10 or more wins.
Utah State had a rocky season under interim coach Nate Dreiling, finishing 4-8 and missing out on a bowl game for just the third time in 14 seasons. The decision to bring in Mendenhall was praised by athletic director Diana Sabau, citing his leadership, proven track record, and emphasis on character development in student-athletes. The Aggies are looking to bounce back next season as they prepare to move to the Pac-12 Conference in 2026.
Mendenhall’s move marks a return to his roots in Utah and a new chapter for both him and the Aggies. With his deep understanding of the game and commitment to player development, there are high hopes for a successful tenure at Utah State. The Aggies will be looking to him to elevate the program and bring them back to bowl game contention in the coming seasons.
