New Mexico Leads in Clean Energy Job Growth
A recent report by E2 and the Renewable Energy Industry Association of New Mexico has revealed that New Mexico is at the forefront of clean energy job growth in the United States. The state has seen significant growth in energy efficiency jobs, ranking first in the nation, and third in clean energy jobs overall.
This growth has been attributed to $2 billion in private investments following the passage of the federal Inflation Reduction Act. With over 13,400 clean energy jobs in the state and 770 new workers added in 2023, New Mexico is poised to become a leader in the clean energy industry.
Susan Nedell, a senior western advocate for E2, highlighted the positive impact of policies and incentives created by the IRA on New Mexico’s clean energy industry. The report, based on data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, shows that clean energy jobs in the state grew by 6.1 percent last year, outpacing economy-wide job growth.
Jim DesJardins, executive director of REIA-NM, emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between renewable energy companies, state governments, communities, and landowners to further reduce the state’s carbon footprint and create new career opportunities. The success of New Mexico’s clean energy sector serves as a model for other states looking to bolster their renewable energy industries and create a more sustainable future.
