NM State Football Returns to Action Against Western Kentucky
NM State football is set to return to action on Saturday as they host the Hilltoppers of Western Kentucky in the penultimate home game of the season. After a 10-day hiatus, the Aggies will look to return to the win column following a road loss at FIU. This game will mark just the second meeting between the Aggies and Hilltoppers on the gridiron and the first time they meet in Las Cruces.
The game is scheduled to kick off at 4 p.m. at Aggie Memorial Stadium and will be broadcast on ESPN+. NM State will be led by senior kicker Abraham Montaño, who is currently 10th in the nation in field goal percentage at 92.3%. The Aggies will also look to build on their strong home record, with an 11-5 record at Aggie Memorial Stadium over the last three seasons.
Last season, the Aggies snapped a five-game losing streak with a double overtime victory over LA Tech. Defensive end Kale Edwards had a standout performance in that game, recording four sacks to earn CUSA Defensive Player of the Week honors. Additionally, true freshman TJ Pride has been a standout receiver for the Aggies this season.
Head coach Tony Sanchez, one of just five Hispanic head coaches at the FBS level, will lead the Aggies in their quest for a third consecutive bowl appearance. NM State is looking to finish strong in the second half of the season, much like they did in previous successful seasons, despite starting with a 2-6 record.
Overall, NM State is aiming for another successful season under Sanchez’s leadership, with the goal of making it to a third consecutive bowl game for the first time in program history.
