Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, 79, underwent emergency surgery to drain a bleed on his brain after an MRI scan showed an intracranial hemorrhage. The surgery was successful and Lula is currently in the intensive care unit of Sirio Libanes hospital in Sao Paulo. Earlier this year, Lula fell at home and was left with a cut on the back of his head, believed to be linked to the recent incident. This forced him to cancel his planned trip to the 2024 BRICS summit in Russia. A news conference will be held to provide further details on Lula’s condition. Brazilian Labor Minister Luiz Marinho wished him a swift recovery on social media.
